A brief outline of the syllabus:

 

There are two papers:

 

·       European History  (1861 to 1941) :  

 

      The course at Maktab Duli concentrates on the period from 1861 to 1941 in European History and  includes studies of Italy, Russia, Germany and diplomatic topics such as The First World War, The Peace Treaties and The League of Nations.

 

 

The History of Southeast and East Asia ( 1824 - 1959 ) :

 

      The course covers the political, economic, and social history of Malaya and Singapore,                  

      Thailand and Indonesia - as well as China and Japan during 1824 to 1959.

 

 

Examination:

 

Paper 1                                 Essay Paper on European History                                    3 hours

Paper 2                                 Essay Paper on Asian History                                          3 hours

 

 

Suggested prior grades which A level teachers feel are necessary for success in this subject.: (NB These may not be the minimum entry qualifications set by the Ministry)

 

  • There are no restrictions on students who wish to take History at A Level
  • You  can take History if you have not studied History ‘O’ Level
  • Students with Credits in ‘O’ level English would be best suited to this course
  • Students without Credits in English should have a good standard of written language and would be encouraged to seek advice prior to enrolment.

 

Further education and career prospects for someone who studies this subject-

 

An ‘A’level pass in History will equip a student to apply for courses in Law, Public Administration, Management, History, International Relations and more. The skills of enquiry and problem solving students learn will help them for a variety of occupations in the future.

 

History is viewed as a good prior qualification for the management and Public Policy courses at UBD.
