A brief outline of the syllabus: The A level Economics syllabus
is designed to enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and
understanding of economic analysis and be able to apply this knowledge to
situations and problems. The syllabus
is intended to provide a broad understanding of economics – both micro and
macro components and to provide a satisfactory basis for further study of the
subject. The major topics are The
Central Problem of Economics, Theory of Demand, Theory of Supply, Price and
Output Determination, Theory of Distribution, National Income accounting,
Theory of Income Determination, Money and the Price Level, International
Trade, The Economic Role of Government and Economic Development. |
The particular qualities which are needed for this subject:
An inquiring mind and a keen interest in current economic
issues and trends. Perseverance. |
Examination: Paper 1 Multiple choice ( all compulsory

Suggested prior grades which A level
teachers feel are necessary for success in this subject.: (NB These may not be the minimum entry
qualifications set by the Ministry) Good O Level passes in English Language and
Mathematics. A pass in O level
Economics is an advantage. |

The A level course provides a
good background for further courses in economics, social science, public
administration, management, business studies, accounting and law. There are numerous career opportunities
for economics graduates in both the public and private sectors. Economists can fill positions as
economists, economic planners, investment consultants, statisticians,
bankers, company managers, market analysts, commodity traders, foreign
exchange dealers etc. |
