A brief outline of the syllabus: The syllabus is divided into two parts:- The core syllabus comprising ten sections:- a) cell structure b) biological molecules c) enzymes d) cell and nuclear division e) genetic control and inheritance f) inherited change and evolution g) energetics h) ecology i) transport j) regulation and control The option syllabus:- Candidates will study two options. The two options offered are :- Option 1: Biodiversity Option 4: Growth, development and reproduction. |
The particular qualities which are needed for this subject: · An interest in reading widely (in view of the broad syllabus which requires in-depth and detailed study). · An ability to understand and remember biological facts, terminology, principles, relationships and concepts. · Skills in critical thinking, data analysis and interpretation and the application of biological knowledge to solve related problems. · Experimental skills – the ability to devise, plan and carry out experimental activities and to interpret, evaluate and communicate the experimental results. · The ability to communicate biological information coherently. For this a reasonable command of English is required. |
